Class Permissions

graphic representation: Before 11:59 p.m. on the fifth day of classes, students may need to obtain permission for certain types of classes, including but not limited to independent study, directed study thesis, internships, etc. Class permissions are replacing restricted schedule numbers. On sixth day of classes, students cannot add themselves to the waitlist anymore and faculty will not have access to the waitlist. All waitlists will be purged.

What are Class Permissions?

Class Permissions are a way for an instructor or department to authorize a student's enrollment in a course.

Department Consent

You may need to obtain permission for certain types of classes, including but not limited to independent study, directed study thesis, internships, etc. These courses are annotated with Department Consent Required on the class schedule. Contact the department offering the course to obtain permission to enroll. Once the department or faculty has granted permission within my.SDSU, you will be able to enroll in the course.

Under Class Details a message may appear that reads: Department Consent Required.

Permission Numbers

Enrollment after the fifth* instructional day is by permission only (*deadlines may vary in summer). In order to enroll in a course, you must contact the course instructor and request a permission number. You will enter the permission number in my.SDSU when enrolling in the course.

Permission numbers can only be used one time and should not be shared with other students.

Under Review Class Preferences, there will be an input field for permission number.
