Returning Students
Considering returning to SDSU to complete your degree? Whether you have been out of attendance for a few semesters or years, we can help. Re-admission considerations are based on a variety of factors. It is important to determine what re-admission category you fall into. If you are interested in returning, please fill out the Re-admission Screening Questionnaire, and our re-enrollment advisor will review your information and reach back out to you to discuss your options.
Academic Standing
It is Important to know your academic standing when you decide to return to SDSU. The requirements needed to return will vary based on your standing.
- If you had a cumulative and SDSU GPA of 2.0+, you are in good standing, academically eligible to apply through admissions to return.
- Your eligibility to return and to register for courses may be impacted by non-academic factors, such as holds from your prior enrollment.
Be sure to review the GPA requirements associated with your declared major when re-applying.
- Students are placed on academic notice at the end of the semester when their SDSU GPA and/or cumulative GPA is less than 2.0 (less than a "C" average).
We understand that certain students may have faced challenging circumstances that hindered their ability to meet academic expectations. If you experienced such difficulties during your time in school, we can explore potential options for improving your grades during those periods.
Undergraduate Academic Status: Academic Notice and Disqualification
- Did not meet academic standards while on academic notice:
- First-year (29 units or less) will be academically disqualified if their SDSU or cumulative GPA is below a 1.50
- Sophomore (30-59 units) will be academically disqualified if their SDSU or cumulative GPA is below a 1.70
- Junior (60-89 units) will be academically disqualified if their SDSU or cumulative GPA is below a 1.85
- Senior (90 units or higher) will be academically disqualified if their SDSU or cumulative GPA is below a 1.95
- 2nd Baccalaureate (0+ units) will be academically disqualified if their SDSU or cumulative GPA is below a 1.95
- If you are disqualified, you are no longer a student at SDSU and you cannot enroll in SDSU classes, or classes through SDSU Global Campus, for a minimum of one year.
- To return to SDSU after a year, you must reapply to the University and be subject to the policy and admission standards in effect at the time of your application.

Things You Can Do Now
Make sure that you submit transcripts to SDSU from all other institutions you have attended since your last attendance at SDSU, and you have a copy of your previous SDSU transcript. After the transcripts are submitted and processed, the coursework will be reflected on your degree evaluation, and will help create a plan for your return.
Please submit transcripts for any schools you attended since you last attended SDSU.
It's a good idea to examine your SDSU transcript if you haven't looked at it in a while to check your academic standing.
