Understanding the Degree Evaluation

The degree evaluation is an essential resource that outlines a student’s progress toward completing their degree. Based on the University Catalog, the degree evaluation updates regularly as degree requirements are satisfied. Students can use the degree evaluation to track their progress toward degree completion.

How to Run a Degree Evaluation

  1. Log in to my.SDSU and select the Degree Evaluation tile
  2. Select Run Declared Programs

How to Run a Degree Evaluation for a Different Program

A What-If Audit is a degree evaluation that shows how completed coursework would apply to a different major or new minor and what requirements would remain if a student changed programs.

  1. Log in to my.SDSU and select the Degree Evaluation tile
  2. Select a Different Undergraduate Program
  3. Select a different major under Program
  4. Select the current catalog year
  5. The option to add a minor is available by selecting the catalog year and minor
  6. Run Different Program

How to Read the Degree Evaluation

The degree evaluation is broken into multiple degree requirements.

A color-coded graphic shows graduation requirements:

  • Green: Completed courses or requirements
  • Blue: In-progress or planned courses for the current or upcoming term
  • Red: Unmet courses needed to fulfill degree requirements

The Legend provides a list of the symbols and definitions used in the degree evaluation:

  • NO = Requirement not complete
  • - = Sub-Requirement not complete
  • OK = Requirement completed
  • + = Sub-Requirement completed
  • -R = Mandatory Sub-Requirement not complete
  • +R = Mandatory Sub-Requirement completed
  • >A = Credit adjustment
  • >R = Repeatable courses
  • >D = Duplicate course, included in GPA, no units earned
  • >X = Course not included in GPA, no units earned
  • >S = Substitute for SDSU course
  • >U = No SDSU course equivalent
  • >Z = Course that has had its credit split
  • >- = Repeatable course that has had its credit reduced
  • CR- GRADE = Credit grade equivalent to C-
  • CRD GRADE = Credit grade equivalent to D+, D or D-
  • MG GRADE = Multiple grades
  • MG- GRADE = Multiple grades with a C-
  • MGD GRADE = Multiple grades with a D or lower
  • MP GRADE = Multiple grades with a CR grade
  • MP- GRADE = Multiple grades with a C- and CR
  • MPD GRADE = Multiple grades with a D or lower and CR
  • MIP GRADE = Multiple grades with an In-Progress
  • NG GRADE = Not graded
  • FP GRADE = Future In-Progress

Graduation requirements for a bachelor's degree:

  • Competency requirements: Students are required to demonstrate competency in basic mathematics and standard written English.
  • Graduation Writing Assessment requirement (GWAR): Upper-division writing course

Academic Coursework: Advanced Placement credit, International Baccalaureate credit and College Level Examination credit results are displayed, in addition to courses transferred from other institutions with the SDSU course equivalent.
